Animal Control

As of August 30, 2009, The Taney County Health Department has taken over the duties of Animal Control for all of Taney County. The Taney County Health Department now employs three Animal Control Officers (ACO), as well as overseeing the Animal Control Facility at 255 Critter Trail, in Hollister, Missouri.

The ACO enforce all animal ordinances, take care of any animal complaints and patrol regularly for the City of Branson, as well as handling animal investigations for all of Taney County.

The City of Branson has a rabies vaccination law in effect. Rabies vaccinations are required for dogs, cats, and ferrets by a licensed veterinarian. It is also required by law that the rabies tag be worn at all times.

The Animal Control Officers also inspect attractions or events involving animals to make sure that such events are within the required federal, state, and local guidelines. Health permits are required for all animal attractions, whether permanent or temporary. For more information please call (417) 334-4544.

What is an Equine Coggins Test?

A Coggins blood test is required for any horse prior to being allowed at any show or organized event in the City of Branson. It tests for Equine Infectious Anemia, a viral disease of horses for which there is no cure or vaccine. For further information, click here.

Lost/Found Animals and Animal Adoption

The Taney County Health Department's Animal Control Facility maintains a site on PetFinder.com, wherein we display all animals that are currently available to the public. This includes animals that have strayed from their owners as well as those that have been surrendered.

The shelter's adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM until 2:00 pm. The Adoption fees are only $65.00. For puppies, the adoption fee covers the first set of shots and spay/neuter. For older dogs, it includes their shots and spay/neuter.
