Community Health Education
The Taney County Health Department makes resources available to local citizens for presentations and information regarding community health. Topics include: STDs, hand washing, smoking, tobacco use, car seat safety, immunizations nutrition, wellness and under age drinking prevention.
- Presentations: Our community health educator works as a liaison between TCHD staff and the community in bringing presentations to your location. In the past these presentations have been made at local business venues and schools. To schedule a presentation call the health educator at: 417-334-4544, extension: 225.

Kara Miller (our Health Educator) and Patricia Civiello (our Maternal Child Health Educator)
make a 5-A-Day nutrition presentation.
Car Seat Safety: Taney County Health Department is a certified car-seat fitting station. We have three car-seat technicians on staff and work by appointment to educate the community about car seat safety. For preliminary information pertaining to car seat safety see the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. (See “Quick Clicks” on the Left Hand Side of their page.) Appointments are available in both the Branson and Forsyth locations.
- Community Coalitions: Currently, TCHD is working with the community to educate the public about the effects of tobacco and second hand smoke through our Smoke free Taney County coalition. This coalition meets every other month, and is active in the community through anti-tobacco clubs in our schools and various other events tailored to educate our residents about the negative effects of tobacco and second hand smoke.
- Another of the department’s major health related initiatives is the Alcohol And Drug Abuse Prevention Team A.D.A.P.T. . This coalition works to educate those businesses that sell alcohol about the legal ramifications of selling alcohol to a minor. Topics pertain to social consequences of underage drinking, ensuing liability, compliance and enforcement.
- Resource Library: The Taney County Health Department is a great resource for all things community-health related. Our dedicated staff is available to meet the needs of various businesses in this regard. Informational packets, handouts, fact sheets and other media are available by request to aid you in your health educational endeavors. Information may be obtained through mail or even disseminated personally by our staff. Kindly allow at least two weeks notice if you wish to request this service. EXAMPLES OF WHAT WE DO:
The following are but a few examples of the kinds of presentations that we make.
This presentation is a great introduction to Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) and deals with the transmission, treatment and avoidance of the disease.
This presentation deals with dangers of smoking during pregnancy, the effects smoking could have on your baby, and the risks associated with this behavior.
