Community Health
The local health department has the responsibility of investigating infectious diseases that are identified in Taney County. The Taney County Health Department conducts investigations of conditions reported by health care providers and laboratories according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Communicable Disease Investigation Reference Manual-http://www.dhss.mo.gov/CDManual/CDManual.htm. Norovirus is a virus that causes the “stomach flu,” or vomiting and diarrhea, in people. Outbreaks occur as the virus is spread very easily from person to person. The illness is usually not very serious, but older people, children, or those with other medical issues may have serious complications that can result in hospitalization.
